Many would come here just for the beautiful beaches but, if you’re looking for an active holiday then you’ll find plenty to do here. There are marinas and nautical centres for sea sports, fishing, horse riding, windsurfing and golf are all possible. Cycling and walking are very popular in the area with signposted routes of between 6 and 35km running through the Arvert Peninsula, some of them along the coast, others through the Coubre Forest or along the shores of the Seudre Estuary. It's a great place for children with surf and windsurfing schools, Go karting, quad-biking, horse riding, paint-balling and Indian forests set in the tall trees of the Coubre Forest and of course no visit would be complete without a visit to the beautiful zoo at La Palmyre. Seafood is a great specialty and oysters and mussels can be sampled in any of the many restaurants. A popular local dish here is the Ecclade - mussels cooked on pine needles. All the local towns and villages hold weekly markets. Guide books of the area are provided in each Gite and there are also plenty of leaflets to help you plan your stay.
